![]() He stressed the importance of getting a 2011 and up 6 speed Allison because they were stronger. He had 40k miles on the swap at the time I talked to him. He had 550hp and around 1200 tq if I remember correctly Only thing he did to the Allison before the swap was a torque converter and valve body. ![]() He said numerous times during our conversation that he would never go back to what he had, which was a fully built goerend. He towed 12k regularly and he said it pulled so much better. The way that truck got out of the hole was really something. Ive ridden in a 2nd gen with a 6 speed Allison swap and I was blown away. The tuning of the shift points, line pressure, TC lock, TC lock and unlock speed while shifting all done with a laptop is a huge advantage. Having the lower first gear plus the better gap in the gear ratios is a big advantage. We have had great results with this build, yet Im pretty realistic with our customers who are choosing a 68rfe. We build in house installed 68rfe only and use the Suncoast OM3GA drum that utilizes the 48re Direct clutch style frictions in Overdrive/Underdrive. This doesn't even begin to hit on the advantages of the swap. Cost effective you might just stick with a good converter if hes only hoping for 500. Either way it should be a much cheaper swap than an Allison, heck the bellhousing adapter and transfer case adapter alone would save 1500 bucks. This kit is made for a Full Manual Valve Body. Included in this kit is everything you will need to toss that junk 68rfe in the trash and move up to a 48re able to hold your power. Supposedly you can use the 47RE flex plate but will have to enlarge the center hole for converter clearance or you can swap in a 68rfe flex plate instead. Well look no further than the Firepunk 48 swap kits. Worse case might need a input shaft change. Depending on what transfer case you have it will bolt right up as well. my gf of 6 years and bank account absolutely hate me right now. From what I've heard/read the case is the exact same size as the 47RE so no drive shaft modification is needed. Mountaineer hill- your telling me brother, turbo went out, 4x4 went out, and trans went out all in 100 miles. will i need to relflash a different tune when I'm just cruising it compared to when i haul my boat or race it? the only thing I'm unsure about is how firepunks controllers are going to run it. (he knows me very well and is my neighbor and owns his own diesel shop so when i said atleast 1000 hp he made it 1500). i just got quoted from a very good mechanic $8800 installed and out the door for a 48 swap with fire punks controller built for around 1500 hp. i would love to get above the 1000 hp mark and still be functional like my buddies 5.9's. Ive got a 68rfe in my 15 and They suck with stock tuning, it’s better with tuning but still not great. my goal is to build this thing the way i want it with out ever having to worry about the trans. ![]() i have a few buddies with full built 5.9's that i go to events with that are "competitive". how it shifts and overall feel of it? i have absolutely hated my 68 since even deleting my truck and have no confidence in them whatsoever.Ĭacciatore-it is a weekend warrior/boat hauler that i drive when its nice out and want to send down the track and hook it to the sled a couple times a year. with all this being said what route did y'all go with the 48 swap? my mechanic said fire punk has a nice kit anteater and porcupine? has anyone ever used or did this swap that could review it and give me the negs and positives of the swap. ![]() my mechanic def wants me to go to a 48 because he knows how i am and he isn't comfortable having a 68 hold more than 800 hp. i plan on throwing a huge primary on top of my 467 as soon as i get a tranny in that will hold the hp and doing a full engine build. so obviously i am looking at needing a new trans and want reviews on anyone that has done a 48 swap. trans didnt make it 100 miles on the lowest setting and the easiest driving i have ever done b4 losing 5th and 6th gear and going into limp mode. my turbo went out around christmas time, just got truck back with a 2nd gen swap s467.7 100 hp injectors, head studs and ez lynk through hpp.
